Fifty years ago today .........

It's 50 years to the day - 3rd January 2011 - since my Dad left cold, wet London to take up his post as Chief Technical Education Officer in Western Nigeria.

Through this blog I hope to tell the story and share some of the 400 great colour slides that he and my brother took during 1961 and the first 2 months of 1962 when my Mother returned to visit before they travelled back to UK together.

However there are a few techncal hitches and also I need time to read the daily letters that my parents exchanged during the year to get more information to share.

My Dad was a great inspiration to me and I want to do justice to his story, so I am going to take a little time to work out how to tell his story on this blog - I think I will have to tell in in reverse order chunks or otherwise it will read backwards! Please email me if you have any suggestions - lizmillman@yahoo.co.uk

So if you read this, please celebrate with me and, like my Dad, let's all see what we can do to help and support one another.

Special thanks go to Raymond Afolarin Olayinka for suggesting that I take part in the Nigerian Nostalgia Project and for his encouragement to get me to face the challenge of finding the photographs and letters etc. My Dad would love to know what we are doing and my grandchildren will get to know something about my Dad, they are in the photo below with Ray, my eldest daughter Audrey and I.

So please be patient as it will take a while to get this done, I also have to get on with some other work and will be spending most of January in Jamaica focusing on language rights issues.

Every good wish for 2011 and thanks for your interest.  Liz
